Step 4 - Look for Purpose

Be Grateful

Do you know how to be truly grateful?  I didn’t I looked at everything with a negative lens.   It wasn’t until I started to keep a gratitude journal that I started to change the way I looked at everything.

You can type it on your computer, get a notebook, legal pad, it doesn’t matter.  I kept mine under my pillow.  Every night I would list the small things that happened today that I was thankful for.   It works very fast!

Instead of thinking of all you have to do everyday, change it to what you get to do.

I am grateful for:

• Money for groceries
• The skills to cook a wonderful meal
• A healthy family
• Nice clothes to wash
• Happy children to bathe and tuck in
• Parents we can call and ask their advice
• A family to take care of

Makes you look at everything differently.

Find the Faith
Feeling beat down and alone is one of the worst feelings. We all want to feel like we all belong to something.

Having a connection with your faith can be a strong tool. Maybe you need a visit to your church, read a scripture or just to say a prayer. It can relieve a big weight to "hand" over your troubles to a higher power.

I can remember sitting in church for months and crying through the whole service. I wanted so badly for some one to come and save me.

Reach out, and connect today. Your not alone.

Find a Hobby
Finding an interest is a big deal.  When I was falling apart my husband tried to make a joke by saying that I should make my recovery and fitness my new hobby.  I am surprised that the world could not see the lightbulb go on in my head.  Why not?  I became aborbed in everything I could find.  Had I not I wouldn't be where I am today.

Health and fitness will not interest everyone, but find something you have always wanted to get into.  Maybe it's a painting class, yoga, cooking.  Pour yourself into it - it's a great stress reliever.
