As many of you know after tracking my food I started to find that there were triggers for my Panic Attacks. One of those triggers is Aspartame, that nasty sweetener in your favorite low calorie foods and diet drinks. Once you realize there is a link to something you really don’t want to get close to it again. I began to read labels and educate myself. One area I was very surprised in was gum. Every package of gum had Aspartame in it! I was feeding this to myself as well as my kids. One afternoon my daughter and I spent near an hour reading gum labels. No luck finding one with anything but Aspartame. Not long after we found Glee Gum at a local store. We were so excited it was made with natural products. I was able to let the kids have the gum, and I could relax not thinking about what those chemicals might do to them. Now, my job is to pass on this find to you & thank the makers of Glee for such a great product.

Some more info. to share abuot gum and healthy seewtener choices: Pros: Gum with xylitol (a natural seewtener) is a very healthy sweetenr choice. Often gums with the ADA (American Dental Association) logo contain this. (Trident brand contains that). I read a dentist’s comments in the Reader’s Digest that xylitol actually changes the chemistry (for the positive) in the mouth. It is also considered very healthy for the body. It can be purchased at Whole Foods. Another seewtener choice is Stevia drops (from Whole Foods) that I use in my smoothies to sweeten up my unsweetened plain yogurt. It’s very concentrated and only takes a few drops so a little goes a long way.Another pro with gum is those with digestive issues such as heartburn who don’t chew their food well, can benefit from chewing gum following a meal (for a short time) because the saliva releases enzymes that helps to digest the meal.Cons of gum: Per Dr. Mercola on his web-site he advises against chewing gum in general because this stimulates the body to release some of it’s stores of digestive enzymes, due to the chewing process releasing saliva, causing us to think we are consuming food. Since our body has a limited capacity for producing them over our life time, he advises against wasting them on chewing gum.
Aspartame triggers migraines for me and I am also trying to stay away from it. I am a gum chewer and have been going crazy. I did find Trident cinnamon has NO aspartame, but I am not the biggest fan of cinnamon gum. Where is it you found this new gum in your post? Is this something I could find in a store?
Hi Krystal.
Glee gum was a happy find for me! Like you I was missing enjoying gum. They have lots of great flavors. I order directly from their site, but they have a list of stores on their site. You can find out all about them here http://www.gleegum.com/ . I am with you not a huge cinnamon gum fan! Hope you enjoy!
